The objective of this article was to map the profile and knowledge of participants in the course Artificial Intelligence in Public Security: introductory notions regarding AI and the possibilities that this technology offers. This course is developed and offered by the Civil Police Academy of Minas Gerais (Acadepol-MG). To this end, a qualitative and descriptive research was conducted. As for the technical procedure, a case study was chosen. Among the results, it is worth highlighting that the civil servants participating in the research recognize the potential of AI. However, important challenges to its adoption were also identified, including resistance to change, lack of resources for implementation, lack of specific training, and ethical and legal concerns. Therefore, the initiative of Acadepol-MG to offer training on AI is essential to prepare civil servants for this new reality.
